Kitchen Passport: Kansai, Japan
September 19, 10AM-1PM, Ages 8-13
Service Description
Grab your passport - we're heading to the culinary soul of Japan. Kansai is the region of Osaka and Kyoto, where food culture runs deep and every dish tells a story. In this class, young chefs will build dashi from scratch using kombu and katsuobushi - the foundation that defines Kansai cooking - and transform it into a delicate miso soup. We'll shape onigiri by hand, then fire up okonomiyaki, Osaka's iconic savory pancake layered with cabbage and umami. We'll finish with mitarashi dango - chewy rice flour dumplings on skewers glazed with a sweet soy sauce, a Kyoto street food tradition that's been around for centuries. This is Kansai on a plate. On the menu: • Dashi + miso soup • Onigiri • Okonomiyaki • Mitarashi dango
