Kitchen Passport: Puerto Rico
May 15, 10AM-1PM, Ages 8-13
Service Description
Puerto Rican cooking starts with sofrito - a fragrant blend of peppers, garlic, cilantro and onion that is the heartbeat of the island's cuisine. In this class, young chefs will build their own sofrito from scratch and use it as the foundation for pollo guisado, a rich braised chicken stew that has anchored Puerto Rican family tables for generations. We'll pound and fry mofongo - the island's most iconic dish, crispy fried plantains mashed with garlic into something entirely their own. We finish with tembleque, a silky coconut pudding that is as simple as it is extraordinary. On the menu: • Sofrito • Pollo guisado • Mofongo • Tembleque
